The Hydroptère is a part boat and part plane. It made a historic event when it broke the world speed record for 500 meters, at a speed of 61 miles per hour, in 2009. This is one of the fastest sailing sailboats in the San Fransisco Bay Area.
Alain Thebault, the skipper, and designer of the boat is on the lookout for sponsors to finance his next attempt to break the trans-Pacific speed record next year.
The four men crew atop Hydroptère is determined to make that ride, across the Pacific from Los Angeles to Honolulu at a record-breaking speed. However, Alain Thebault needs to raise around $3 million to $3.6 million to make his dream become a reality.
Larry Page, co-founder of Google recently expressed an interest in high-speed sailing on his Google+ page. It forms as no surprise then that Alain Thebault took him for a ride on Hydroptere.
