The name of the sixth Royal-Class cruise was revealed recently as ‘Discovery Princess’. She will be the third vessel designed ground up with the Princess MedallionClass and the final Royal-class ship. Discovery Princess will also be the first new cruise ship for Princess Cruises to be based in the West Coast, sailing out of Los Angeles.
The international premium cruise line also announced its largest inaugural launch program ever, which will include worldwide itineraries offered onboard Discovery Princess for the 2021 and 2022 cruise season to the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, South America, and the California Coast. The inaugural season will include 30 departures following 21 unique itineraries to more than 50 destinations in 23 countries.
Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ president said that Discovery Princess would take their guests on one of the most memorable vacations of their lifetime, introducing visitors to new sights, new cultures, and new experiences onboard every voyage.
The 3,660-passenger, 143,700-ton ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. Discovery Princess will feature an evolved design platform that has been used in the cruise line’s previous Royal-Class ships. She is scheduled to debut on November 3rd, 2021, on a seven-day Mediterranean & Aegean inaugural cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Athens.
The ship will be a MedallionClass ship when it launches and feature Princess’ customer-focused OceanMedallion technology onboard. The ship will offer many of the cruise line’s signature experiences, which includes the adults-only Sanctuary, Movies Under the Stars, and a three-deck-high Piazza atrium. It will also have Sky Suites, which feature the line’s largest balconies.
Bookings for Discovery Princess open October 8, 2019. Princess past guests will be eligible for a special promotion when booking early.
